Jason Waddell pleads guilty to two charges

SINGAPORE,  12 July 2005

New Zealand jockey Jason Waddell, already suspended two months for his handling of TOM HIGGS on June 17 (for which he is appealing), has also been suspended two months for misconduct with effect from today.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Waddell pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under MRA Rule 53.(b)(i) in that on Friday, June 17, 2005, he failed to arrive on course at the Singapore Turf Club to fulfil his riding engagements as required under the MRA Rules of Racing.

"Thereafter, in the following weeks, he misled the Stewards into believing that he had been to a doctor prior to the meeting and had obtained a medical certificate to relieve him of the six rides, when in fact this was later found to be untrue," according to the Singapore Turf Club.

Waddell was suspended from riding in races for a period of two months with immediate effect from today to September 11, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.

At the conclusion of another inquiry today, Waddell also pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under MRA Rule 53.(b)(i) in that on Monday, July 11, 2005, at the Singapore Turf Club, at approximately 0820hrs, he worked a horse on Track 4 after being told by the Supervisor that Track 4 was in fact closed for routine maintenance. Waddell was fined a sum of S$1,000 and advised of his right of appeal.
