New chief handicapper for Singapore

SINGAPORE,  6 October 2005

The Singapore Turf Club has a new chief handicapper in Australian Mark Webbey who started work on Monday. Webbey is also Singapore’s representative to the World Thoroughbred Ranking Committee.

Prior to coming to Singapore, Webbey, 48, was Senior Handicapper for Racing NSW, a position he held since 1997. Before that, he was handicapper for the Australian Jockey Club for 10 years and has been working in the racing industry in various capacities since 1976. He was also Chairman of the ANZ Classification Committee.

Married with two children, Webbey replaces South African Mike Wanklin who returned home after a five-year stint at Kranji.
