GOLDEN ACE became only the
second repeat winner of the RM500,000 Coronation Cup since CONFLUENCE in
2002 and 2003 when he triumphed in the 1600m weight-for-age contest here
today.
After three dismal runs
this year, the six-year-old chestnut Australian gelding by Desert Prince out
of the Green Desert mare Soyinca bounced back to create an upset in the
Astro Wah Lai Toi Vase over 1400m last month, coming from a long way back
for victory.
The Prakhash Pereira
trained GOLDEN ACE then stepped up on that run to account for FREE SPIRIT
today, with LABU LABU making it a 1-2-3 for home based horses. GOLDEN ACE
has now just past the RM1 million mark from seven win and five placings in 20
starts.
Meanwhile, FAST FLYING
continued his impressive progress when he captured the RM250,000 Astro Wah
Lai Toi Charity Cup over 2000m, a day after the Stewards began investigation
into the apparent absenteeism
of trainer Lee Yoke Bill from his stables, trackwork and race days over the
past month.
Pitted against top company for the first time, FAST FLYING (5 b.a.g
Distorted Humor - Miss Tatum by Snippets) coasted to an easy victory for his
seventh win in 15 starts.
