ARENTI, who shot to
prominence earlier in the season winning the Three Rings Trophy and the
Singapore Group 1 Lion City Cup, resumed from a short let-up to capture the
Singapore Group 3 S$200,000 Jumbo Jet Trophy over 1400m at Kanji here today.
Settled just off the pace by jockey Soo Khoon Beng, the five-year-old bay
New Zealand gelding by O’Reilly out of the Centaine mare Gio came through
the centre of the track in the final 300m to beat the fast-finishing KING
AND KING and CONNERY.
ARENTI’s dam, a winner over 1150m, is a full sister to STARMAN II (winner of
seven races in the MRA including the Selangor Gold Cup in 1996). Trained by
John Meagher, ARENTI has now won eight times in 11 starts.
RIVER ROUGE, a half-brother to last season’s Horse Of The Year BIG EASY,
made a big impression winning his debut in the Restricted Maiden event over
1200m.
Ridden by Aaron Spiteri, the three-year-old bay New Zealand gelding by
O’Reilly out of the Forty Niner mare Nicole’s Niner settled nicely in third
spot behind the pace.
Although still a bit green, RIVER ROUGE was too strong in the run home to
win by two-and-a-quarter lengths in a time of 1 min. 10.4 secs.
RIVER ROUGE, who is also a half-brother to ROYAL MARSHAL (two wins thus
far), was knocked down for NZ$65,000 at the 2005 New Zealand Premier
Yearling Sale.
