Patrick Busuttin returns to New Zealand

SINGAPORE,  27 July 2006

Trainer Patrick Busuttin will be leaving Singapore next month after a highly successful nine-year stint at Kranji.

Busuttin, 52, left his former base in Foxton in 1997 to become one of the most successful trainers in Singapore. His career highlights included training the 2001 Horse of the Year BOCELLI, who won nine races, including the Singapore 4YO Challenge that year, comprising the Patrons’ Bowl, Singapore Derby Trial and Emirates Singapore Derby. BOCELLI remains to this date the only horse to have achieved this feat.

BOCELLI also won the Queen Elizabeth II Cup in 2001 and Busuttin followed up the following year winning with FIRE HOUSE.

Busuttin started training in 1974 and enjoyed many significant successes including three Wellington Cups, an Auckland Cup, the 1989 New Zealand Derby and a Kelt Capital Stakes with his superb galloper CASTLETOWN.

Busuttin will return to his Cambridge property in New Zealand where he will continue his foray into breeding following the successful sale of a Redoute’s Choice filly which was bred from Busuttin’s mare Heavenly Night and which subsequently sold for A$750,000 at the 2006 Australian Easter Sales in Sydney.
