King's Carnival wins Jebsen & Jessen Trophy

SINGAPORE,  6 October 2006

After a less than impressive start to his campaign in Singapore, KING’S CARNIVAL appears to be hitting his best form.

Ridden by Mark Du Plessis, the five-year-old chestnut Australian gelding by Don’t Say Halo out of the Steel Glow mare Partner Me captured the inaugural running of The Jebsen & Jessen Trophy (Class 1 - 1600m) for his second consecutive win and his third in his last five starts.

Well off the pace early, Du Plessis took the inside running at the home bend when the early leader LIM’S CLASSIC swung wide going into the straight and quickly charge to the front.

The rest of the field were stretched across the track almost in a line trying to catch him but KING’S CARNIVAL was simply too strong. He set a new course record time of 1:35.1, 0.1 second better than the previous best best jointly held by EL MARROQUI and WORLD LEADERS.

KING’S CARNIVAL scored thrice over 1400m and was placed four times in Listed race before he finished fourth to PLSSTERED in the Group 1 Western Australian Derby over 2400m. He then then shipped out to Singapore.

His best effort in his initial eight starts was a fourth but after second in June this year, he has gone from strength to strength.

Leading jockey Du Plessis then completed a double on newcomer LUCKYTINO (4 b.arg.g Lucky Roberto - Vespertina by Southern Halo) in the Progress - 1200m sprint.

Yet another course record on the fibresand track was re-written tonight with NIRVANA (5 b.nz.g Stravinsky - Philadelphia by Dahar) covering the 1200m in a time of 1:10.3.
