Johann van Breukelen in forfeit list

KUALA LUMPUR,  26 April 2006

Kuala Lumpur based trainer Johann van Breukelen has been placed on the MRA forfeit list on April 10. This means that he is a disqualified person from that date.

This came just six days after Wilming Yeo's had his MRA licence cancelled for being declared a bankrupt by the High Court of Malaya in Ipoh on April 6.

Most of the horses under the care of Johann, the elder brother of  former champion trainer Marinus van Breukelen, have transferred to other trainers in recent weeks.

According to the MRA Classification List just released, Johann owes a total of RM149,097.61.

Meanwhile, the future of Marinus, who lost the title last year by a solitary winner, also hangs in the balance. Most of his horses have been taken over by his younger brother Evert in recent weeks and Marinus has not have a runner for several weeks now.

It looks as if Evert will now be left carry the proud name of the family. Johann, Marinus and Evert are sons of the late Eddie van Breukelen, one of the finest trainers of his time.
