Six-month extension for six trainers

SINGAPORE,  23 June 2006

Six trainers who were issued six-month licences at the beginning of the year have had their licences extended until the end of the season.

The six are Abdul Rahim bin Abdul Rahman, Leong Poh Keong, Evelyn Seet Guay Ngoh (all based in Ipoh), Winson Liew Win San, John Allan Nicholls and Terry Tan Kok Ann (all based in Kuala Lumpur).

In the first six months of the season, Leong, Seet and Liew have already bettered their haul of 2005 with eight, seven and six winners respectively. Last year Leong and Seet managed six winners each and Liew three.

Abdul Rahim has saddled five winners thus far in 2006 compared with seven last year, Nicholls two compared with five and Tan just one compared with four last season.

However, Penang based Wong Kong Fatt, who has achieved four wins thus far this season, has his licence extended by just two months to to Aug 31. He managed a respectable nine winners last year.

The licence of Peter Tennent, who expired on June 30, was renewed for another six months.

Apprentices Alan Ng Tien Chye and Maverick Leong Sai Wai have been granted professional jockey licences for the remainder of the season. Ng will be riding as a senior jockey for the first time at Kranji tomorrow.
