Trainer Lionel Lee to continue for now

SINGAPORE,  19 April 2006

The Singapore Turf Club (SNTC), after considering an appeal from trainer Lionel Lee, has decided to continue to allocate stables to first season trainer at Singapore Racecourse.

SNTC said in a statement today, that "in arriving at this decision, the Club took into consideration the grounds and commitments made by trainer Lee in his appeal as well as in his original application to the Club for stables."

"The continuance of stable allocation to trainer Lee however is subject to trainer Lee meeting certain commitments by 30 September 2006."

On April 5, the SNTC announced it would be withdrawing the stables allocated to Lee as he has “failed to meet commitments made when applying for stables at Singapore Racecourse”. Lee was supposed to wind down his operations by May 1.

A former journalist and Stipendiary Steward at the Club, Lee, 45, was granted a licence last September and began operations only in December. He had his first runner in SOVEREIGN RAIN in January and the same horse scored in his second start on Jan 27.

However, Lee was stable supervisor with trainers Don Baertschiger and the late Charles Read before branching out on his own.
