Macau to telecast Malaysian
races KUALA LUMPUR, 17 November 2006 |

The Macau Jockey Club (MJC) will telecast
"live" races from the three Malaysian clubs beginning Dec 9 at the start of
the Selangor Turf Club December Meeting. The agreement to beam races live to Macau was sealed at a signing ceremony here today between representatives of the Penang, Perak and Selangor Turf Clubs and the Macau Horse Racing Company Ltd. It marks the first time MJC will be televising foreign races apart from races from Hong Kong. Telecasts of Macau races in Malaysia began on Sept 23. From an initial turnover of RM1 million, it has grown to RM2.2 million. Selangor Turf Club (SLTC) deputy chairman Datuk Richard Cham said he hoped he response towards Malaysian racing would be positive as the response towards racing from the "original Las Vegas". Acting chief executive of MJC Thomas Li who represented the Macau Horse Racing Company Ltd, said the agreement also paved the way for improvement to racing there as the running of the turf clubs here was more social and not business driven. "The SLTC for instance have a cricket pitch, showjumping facilities and a paddock among other things within the club, while we have a driving range available. "Things here are status driven while in Macau things are more business driven and we hope to explore this," said Li. |
