Recast triumphs in Kranji Mile

SINGAPORE,  15 October 2006

RECAST edges out KING AND KING (inside).

RECAST, a former top three-year-old who went astray after winning the E W Barker Trophy in February last year, came right again after a spell early this season to capture the S$500,000 Kranji Mile here today.

Winner of the Singapore Guineas in 2004, the chestnut Australian ridgeling by Thunder Gulch out of the Marauding mare Abonnement came on the outside of the field in the home straight to nail KING AND KING by a head in the Singapore Group 1 event over 1600m.

RECAST, winner of two of his three starts in Australia, showed a lot of promise with three wins in 2004. Early last year, he scored back-to-back wins but struggled to find his form after that.

Back from a spell in the middle of the year, he was placed twice in three starts and was the second lowest rated horse in the line-up today.

RECAST was the third leg of a splendid treble for jockey Oscar Chavez who also scored on DARK GENERAL (3 b.a.g Blackfriars - Voltage Pak by Carry A Smile) and ZINLY (4 b.nz.g Danasinga - La Cent by Centaine).

ZINLY made it four wins in five starts with a thrilling win in the Kranji Stakes B - 1400m sprint.
