Champion jockey Ryan to
ride at Kranji SINGAPORE, 16 June 2006 |

Champion Australian rider Nicholas Ryan, 19,
has been granted a temporary licence as a freelance rider by the Singapore
Turf Club and will be riding at Kranji from June 24 until July 31. Ryan became an apprentice in Victoria in October 2002 and then managed a remarkable achievement by outriding his allowance (80 metropolitan wins) in less than two years. Ryan became the first apprentice since Damien Oliver to win both the Victorian junior and senior riding titles (2004/2005) in the same year and during this time he rode a total of 83 winners, breaking the previous record of 71 winners. Due to this success the Racing Victoria Committee gave him an early release of his Apprenticeship, granting him a Professional Jockeys Licence as of August 1 last year.  |
