Ariel Smith returns to US

American jockey Ariel Smith has returned to
the United States after just a few weeks in weeks in Singapore.
The former Eclipse Award winner for apprentice has informed the Singapore Turf Club that as his mother is ill and he will be relinquishing his riding licence with immediate effect. Smith was granted a four-month freelance jockey permit by the Club and was supposed to make his debut on Jan 13. But that meeting was cancelled because of persistent rain and he finally took to the saddle on Jan 20 during which he scored on BOOMER LAKE from three rides. He had another four mounts two days later and scored in his final ride on AS CLOCKWORK. Smith was not in action in the two race days over the Chinese New Year weekend.
