Mount Street wins Chairman's Trophy

SINGAPORE,  16 April 2006
MOUNT STREET, narrowly beaten in the Group 2 Queen Elizabeth II Cup last month, went one better to win the S$200,000 Chairman’s Trophy over 1800m at Kranji here today.

The first four horses past the post in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup also featured in this Group 3 contest, but it was the front-running MOUNT STREET who appreciated the shorter journey today — and the heavy track — to score by one-and-three-quarter lengths.

It was the second win (in his last three starts) in Singapore for the former New Zealand Derby runner-up who was also second in the Singapore Gold Cup last year.

With MOUNT STREET racing near his best form, trainer Laurie Laxon can now look forward to the S$3 million Singapore Airlines International Cup next month.

MOUNT STREET was chance mount for John Powell who replaced the gelding’s recent partner Sam Subian. Powell had earlier scored on IMPERIAL TREASURE (8 ch.a.g Mr Greeley - Double Sensation by Whiskey Road).

There was also a double for champion jockey Soo Khoon Beng who scored on LET’S RACE AGAIN (3 b.a.g King Ivor - Jewelmer by Marscay) and LIM’S ZERPERB (3 b.nz.g Zerpour - Hugging by Beveled).
