Benny Woodworth announced
his return after a successful stint in Macau by steEring WAR HORN to victory
in the S$300,000 Singapore Derby Trial over 1600m at Kranji today.
The four-year-old bay Argentinean gelding by Festin out of the Forlitano
mare Forli Vous, unplaced in the Patrons’ Bowl, first leg of the
four-year-old challenge early this month, appreciated the longer trip today
to deny a winning debut for the well-performed newcomer EXPUNGE (4 b.a.g
Gilded Time - Prime Again by Marooned).
ARENTI (4 b.nz.g O’Reilly - Gio by Centaine), who had won seven of his
previous nine starts including the Lion City Cup last month, finished third.
Woodworth has done remarkable well in Macau for the past two seasons and is
currently third on the table in the 2005/06 season.
For WAR HORN, it was his sixth win in Singapore but his first feature race
success after being also unplaced in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup and the
Singapore Airlines International Cup.
The final leg of the four-year-old challenge, the S$1 million Singapore
Derby over 2000m next month, will be a mouth-watering affair with a fine
array of four-year-olds this season.
