Why Be too classy in Kranji
Sprint SINGAPORE, 2 April 2006 |
|
WHY BE, the most exciting sprinter to grace
Kranji since NINETYFIVE EMPEROR, has taken the first step to an expected
clean sweep of the 2006 Singapore Sprint Series by winning the S$200,000
Kranji Sprint over 1200m today.
Winner of the MRA Cup last month, the three-year-old bay Australian gelding
by Success Express out of the Royal Academy mare Charybdis was simply too
classy for his eight rivals, winning by four-and-a-quarter lengths from
LIM’S PASSION who was third in the MRA Cup.
It was the sixth consecutive win for WHY BE and his eighth in ten starts,
during which he also finished second twice.
Champion jockey Soo Khoon Beng has taken
over the lead in the table for the first time this season after booting home
a double on ORION and SUPERB STAR today.
ORION (3 gr.a.g Esperero - Exist by
Bletchingly), narrowly beaten in his debut last month, stepped up on that
run to score his maiden win while SUPERB STAR (5 b.a.g Citidancer - Spins by
Tirol) bounced back to form to register his fourth in 23 starts.
Soo and Mark Du Plessis have 19 wins apiece
but Soo leads with more second placings.
