GOLDEN ACE justified his
pride of place to score a thrilling win in the RM50,000 Tunku Gold Cup over
1200m at Sungei Besi here today.
Ridden by Benny Woodworth,
the six-year-old by Desert Prince out of the Green Desert mare Soyinca
captured the opening classic of the season by defeating the top sprinter
TRIPLE HAPPY, who had won seven of his 10 starts including the Sprint Trophy
last September.
The distance is generally
consider a trifle too short for the Prakhash Pereira trained GOLDEN ACE, who
has won the past two runnings of the Coronation Cup, but with a fast pace
set by the front runners, he was able to come from off the pace to snatch
victory for his eighth win in 22 starts.
Meanwhile, ALL'S FINE ended
a run of 47 starts without success to register his maiden win in the Class
5, Div 4 - 1300m handicap. Needless to stay, he provided the biggest
surprise of the day.
