Aify suspended four months

KUALA LUMPUR,  5 October 2007

Jockey Y Aify was today charged and suspended four months for his handling of MAHADESA in the RM80,000 Kelang Silver Bowl (Class 2 - 1600m) here last Sunday.

In that race, MAHADESA (Special Bond - Bow Bride by Yonder) came from a long way back to finish fourth to IT'S ALL MONEY.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of MAHADESA acting on a report from trainer Stephen Cook. Evidence was taken from Aify and Cook.

Aify, the rider of MAHADESA, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that whilst riding MAHADESA from about the 700m to the 400m in the in the above race, he failed to use his initiative to move his mount into a forward position as per his instructions.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea and his disciplinary record. Aify was suspended from riding in races for a period of four months with effect from Monday, Oct 8 and to expire on February 7, 2008, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
