WORLD AIRLINES overcame
injury and a lengthy spell to capture the S$350,000 E W Barker Trophy in
course record time over
1400m at Kranji here today for his first success in nearly 24 months.
Winner of nine races from
2003 to 2005 including the Jumbo Jet Trophy in September 2005, WORLD
AIRLINES (Umatilla - Euchre by Final Card) was out of action for nine months
until he resumed last month under new trainer Brian Dean.
Obviously benefiting from
two runs under his belt, WORLD AIRLINES took command from the start and made
every post a winning one, romping home by two-and-a-quarter lengths in 1 min. 21.8 secs,
half a second better than PACIFIC PRINCE previous record set in 2000.
“He’d had a long time after
he did a tendon. He had stem cell surgery and a good long rest and he’s come
back better than ever.
“I’ve only had him for three runs and we’re still getting to know him, so to
win this today has been fantastic," said Dean who was elated with his first
Group success as a trainer.
