Yusri and SS Vanan suspended 3 months

KUALA LUMPUR,  14 December 2007

Apprentices Mohd Yusri and SS Vanan have been suspended three months each for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards on COPPERFIELD and FEEL THE POWER respectively last week.

COPPERFIELD (Favorite Trick - Cotton Bay by Zabaleta) came from a long way back to finish fourth to POWER FOR SUCCESS in the Class 4, Div 1 - 1200m last Saturday which was the first leg of the Apprentice Jockeys Invitational series.

FEEL THE POWER (Straight Strike- Tenny Weeny Bikini by Clay Hero) came from last at the home turn to finish third, beaten three-quarter length and a neck, behind INDIAN RUNNER in the Maiden, Div 2 - 1200m sprint last Sunday.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, M Yusri, in the presence of his master, trainer Wong Kong Fatt, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that whilst riding COPPERFIELD, he failed to make any attempt to position his mount in a forward position and to sit second or third as instructed. This resulted in COPPERFIELD racing from the rear of the field where he was unable to race to its best advantage.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account Yusri's previous clean record and he was suspended from riding in races for a period of three months with immediate effect from today and to expire on March 13, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.

At the conclusion of another inquiry today, SS Vanan, in the presence of his master, trainer Tony Yeoh, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) far failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that whilst riding FEEL THE POWER, he failed to make any serious attempt to position his mount handy and to sit in third or fourth position as instructed, resulting in his mount racing towards the rear of the field where it could not race to its best advantage.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account Vanan's previous clean record and relative inexperience, and he was suspended from riding in races for a period of three months with immediate effect from Dec 17 and to expire on March 16, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
