ACE ARMADA overcame a wide
barrier draw and a new rider to maintain his unbeaten record by claiming the
S$200,000 Singapore Guineas over 1600m at Kranji today.
The three-year-old New
Zealand gelding was teaming up for the first time in the Singapore Group 3
even after regular rider Aaron Spiteri cut short his stint in Singapore this
week.
Spiteri's loss is Benny
Woodworth's gain. The Ipoh lad kept ACE ARMADA well off the pace early but
steadily gained ground on the leader at the bend to score by half-a-length
from the fast-finishing ROYAL STAR.
BIG HONOUR and WHITE MAGIC,
both winners of their last two starts, finished third and fourth
respectively.
ACE ARMADA, trained by
Laurie Laxon, has now a perfect record of four wins from four starts.
Noel Callow signalled his
quick return to Kranji with a win on MR FIBS (5 b.nz.g Casual Lies - Past
The Stars by Star Way). The Australian was also placed in all his other four
rides for the day. This win moved him up to second in the table with 13
wins, one behind K B Soo.
Callow returned to
Melbourne after a two-month stint which ended on Feb 28 but was recalled to
Singapore this week to start a six-month stay.
