Cahill cancels licence to ride in Singapore

SINGAPORE,  11 August 2007

Australian jockey Michael Cahill will not be able to fulfill the terms of his new Singapore riding licence. The 42-year-old Brisbane rider had to regretfully request for the withdrawal of the six-month visiting jockey’s permit granted by the Singapore Turf Club as he has to undergo surgery of his injured left wrist.

Cahill was due to commence riding at Kranji on July 1, but initially put the stint on hold by four weeks in a bid to recover from a hip injury.

He was making good progress and had even started riding trackwork back home until he sustained that new injury which was diagnosed by his doctors as torn ligament and cartilage in the left wrist.

Cahill has expressed his wish to be given another chance to ride in Singapore once he has fully recovered.
