Mid-week racing makes comeback in 2008

SINGAPORE,  10 August 2007

Mid-week racing in Singapore is making a comeback to the racing calendar next year after a lapse of several years.

Seven meetings on Wednesdays have been scheduled for the 2008 racing calendar which was released by the Malayan Racing Association today.

When the cross-border movement of horses was banned in 1999, Singapore used to stage meetings on Wednesdays and on one day during the weekend.

But this was quickly discontinued in 2001, probably because of poor attendances and turnover and night racing was instead held on Fridays which will continue in the new season.

In all, there will be 78 race days in Singapore next year, beginning with a New Year's Day meeting on Jan 1. There will be 37 meetings on Friday, 13 on Saturday and 20 on Sundays.

The Penang, Perak and Selangor Turf Clubs will have 26 race days each.
