Two years ago, Dragon Stable's hopes of
winning the Singapore four-year-old series with ROYAL CAPTAIN ended on a
tragic note when their stable pride broke down in the Singapore Derby after
having won the first two legs: the Patrons' Bowl and the Derby Trial.
Just months later, Dragon Stable thought they
had just a talented horse as their ill-fated star and named him MY ROYAL
CAPTAIN.
Well, their new star has
taken the first step in his bid to win the "triple crown" with a hard-fought
victory in the S$500,000 Patrons' Bowl over 1400m at Kranji tonight.
The Laurie Laxon-trained MY
ROYAL CAPTAIN (4 b.nz.g Zabeel - Kiwi Magic by Vice Regal), ridden by the
leading jockey Noel Callow, got home just a head in front of ECHAGUE with
CHEVRON third.
MY ROYAL CAPTAIN, who cost
NZ$120,000 as a yearling, is a half-brother to 1994 Champion Australian mare
FLITTER, winner of nine races including the Group 1 Winfield Classic Stakes
and Group 1 Doomben Ten Thousand. |
