Summer Fiesta celebrates unique victory

SUMMER FIESTA scored a remarkable victory in the RM300,000 Wira Malaysia Cup for Malaysian breds over 1600m here today.

It was his third consecutive win in the "derby" for local breds and perhaps the most incredible one yet.

SUMMER FIESTA (Posen - Mysterious Smile by Covetous) was up 23kg in body weight since his last run but was passed fit to race.

According to his rider Oscar Chavez, his mount was not striding out freely and a veterinary surgeon after the race revealed that the horse was lame off-fore.

Yet SUMMER FIESTA fought tooth-and-nail to defeat VIN-VIN by a nose to register his 10th win in 27 starts and brought his earnings to more than RM860,000 - a fantastic return for a horse who cost only RM9,000 as a two-year-old at the National Premier Sale in 2002.
