Laurie Laxon, who became
the first trainer to saddle 100 winners in a season in Singapore in 2004,
has re-written his own record after winning three races at Kranji tonight.
Wins by the aptly-named
trio of GOOD FEEL, ACE CELEBRATIONS and TOP SPIN brought the Kiwi's tally to
101 for the season. With four race meetings left, Laxon should stretch his
new record even higher.
TOP SPIN stepped up on a
splendid third in the Singapore Gold Cup last month to register a runaway
win in the Benchmark 97 - 1600m event for his eighth win. The Australian
gelding by Arena out of the Strategic mare Gas has never finished out of the
money in 13 starts.
Laxon, however, was not at
Kranji to celebrate his new record. He is in Hong Kong to prepare WHY BE for
the HK$12m Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) on Sunday.
TOP SPIN's success was also
the second leg of a double for jockey Noel Callow who returned to action at
Kranji after winning an international jockeys competition in Mauritius last
week. Callow will be off to Hong Kong tomorrow to ride WHY BE.
