There will be two new additions to the riding ranks at Kranji on Friday with the Club granting freelance licences to Mark Gallagher and old acquaintance Matthew Pumpa.

Irish-born Mark Gallagher, 38, has been riding in India for the last seven years and is currently third on the premiership table.

Not only has Gallagher over 850 wins to his name, but he has ridden extensively on the international circuit with stints in Ireland, England, France, USA, Macau, Malaysia and Singapore (when the races were held at the Bukit Timah racecourse).

Gallagher has ridden a total of 38 Classic and Group race winners and was crowned champion jockey of Bangalore (Winter) in 1995-1996 and 1996-1997 with 44 and 41 wins respectively. He goes to scale at 51.5kgs.

Australian rider Matthew Pumpa, 23, has been race riding for the last six years, chalking up over 300 winners.

During the Melbourne Spring Carnival in 2006, Pumpa was highly successful with two Group races added to his tally along with the Moe Cup, Sale Cup and Swan Hill Cup.

Pumpa has ridden in Singapore before with a stint from January 2005 to June 2005 and tasted Group success with a win in the E W Barker Trophy, on John Meagher’s RECAST. He goes to scale at 51kgs.
