Australian rider Michael
Cahill has been granted a six month visiting jockey’s licence commencing
July 1. Cahill, 42, had a successful stint in Singapore in 1998 where he
rode 12 winners from 66 rides.
Cahill has ridden with success in Australia, Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore,
Korea, Malaysia and England and has over 2,370 winners to his name in a
career spanning 25 years. He won the jockey’s premiership in Macau with 112
winners during the 2003/04 season, including the Group 1 Macau Derby and
Group 2 Winter Cup. Cahill has also won numerous Group races in Australia
including the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 and Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, as
well as the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes, Group 2 Champagne Stakes and Group 2
Todman Slipper Trial.
Cahill is currently licensed by Queensland Racing and is fourth on the
Brisbane Metropolitan jockey’s premiership with 38 wins. He goes to scale at
53kgs.
International riders Robbie Fradd, Barend Vorster, Ronnie Stewart and
Kanichiro Fujii have all been granted an extension of their current riding
licences.
South African jockey Barend Vorster has been granted a visiting riders’
licence for a further six months, commencing on July 1 until December 31.
Vorster is enjoying a highly successful season with three Group wins,
including the Group 1 Lion City Cup on WHY BE. He has won 29 races and along
with 38 placings, is sitting second on the jockey’s premiership. Vorster
goes to scale at 50kgs.
Japanese jockey Kanichiro ‘Joe’ Fujii has been granted a further two-month
visiting riders’ licence starting July 1 until August 31. The 23 year-old
has performed at a consistent level this season with 11 wins and 24 minor
placings. He also won his first Group race when aboard TRIGGER EXPRESS in
the Group 3 Chairman’s Trophy. Fujii goes to scale at 52kgs.
South African rider Robbie Fradd’s new licence will commence on June 27 and
expire on December 31. A former champion rider of Hong Kong, Fradd has
settled into Singapore with the expected ease of such an experienced rider.
He has ridden 28 winners in Singapore this season along with 40 minor
placings and he is currently sitting third on the jockey’s premiership
ladder. Fradd’s riding weight is 52kgs.
Australian Ronnie Stewart’s new licence commences on August 1 and ends on
December 31. Stewart has continued his improvement in Singapore with the
23-year-old now on 23 wins for the season along with 35 placings to add to
his 43 winners from the 2006 season. Stewart goes to scale at 50kgs. ![](endtext.jpg) |
