Murphy leaves Singapore to train in England

SINGAPORE,  28 June 2007

Irish trainer Danny Murphy will leave this week to train in Bawtry, South Yorkshire, England, after spending more than three years in Singapore.

“It’s a chance in a lifetime. I don’t really want to leave Singapore as I have many friends here and the racing has been good to me, but it’s too good an opportunity,” said Murphy.

“I will retain an interest here as I have shares in four horses including the likes of TERFEL and TRUSTED FRIEND who will continue racing and I hope to be able to come back one day with a horse good enough to run in the Singapore Airlines International Cup.”

Murphy’s biggest success in Singapore was when he saddled TERFEL to win Singapore Gold Cup in 2005. TERFEL is also among a handful of Singapore trained horses who have been successful in Dubai.

Murphy’s career, which began in England 20 years ago, has taken him to Macau, where he was among the top trainers for five seasons, and also Penang, where he spent nearly two years in 2001 and 2002.

In South Yorkshire, Murphy will have a stable of 50 horses and he plans to build further boxes. Among his new charges in England will be dual Group 1 winner LES ARCS, who won the Golden Jubilee and July Cup in 2006.
