Stewart and Spiteri extend stay

SINGAPORE,  11 January 2007

Australian jockeys Ronnie Stewart and Aaron Spiteri have both had their visiting jockey’s local permits renewed by the Singapore Turf Club.

Stewart’s new licence commences on Jan 15 and ends on Jul 31 while Spiteri’s will be effective from Feb 1 until Jul 31.

Stewart, 23, and Spiteri, 28, were the best performing visiting jockeys last year, finishing fourth and sixth respectively in the overall table. Stewart chalked up 43 wins and 74 placings, while Spiteri scored 39 wins and was placed 73 times.

Spiteri also won the Yang Di Pertua Negeri (Governor) Gold Cup in Penang for the second consecutive year on new year’s eve astride the Singapore trained EXPUNGE, having tasted success with LIGHT OF SUCCESS in the 2200m handicap the year before.

Stewart goes to scale at 50kgs while Spiteri weighs in at 51kgs.
