Promising filly ROYAL SMILE
accounted for a smart field of colts and geldings to win the S$200,000
Singapore Three-Year-Old Sprint over 1200m in dramatic fashion at Kranji today.
ROYAL SMILE, ridden by Noel
Callow, was poised to race past MAJESTICARDO with 100m to go when the leader
broke down and fell. ROYAL SMILE fortunately managed to avoid the fallen
rider went on to win the Group 3 event from ROYAL STAR.
In winning the first
feature of the season, the Australian
filly provided his sire CARRY THE FLAG with his first Group success in
Singapore. It was on the same track in 1999 when his sire won the Singapore
Gold Cup in brilliant fashion.
At the end of his racing
career, prominent owner Dragon Stable sent CARRY THE FLAG to stand at stud
in Australia and progenies of the Dendy stallion have been making waves on
the tracks both in Australia and Singapore, where ROYAL SMILE, also owned by
Dragon Stable, is the only of his progeny to race so far.
ROYAL SMILE, who is out of
the Star Of The Magi mare Lucys Loot, has now chalked up four wins and four
placings in eight starts.
Meanwhile, ARENTI (5 b.nz.g
O'Reilly - Gio by Centaine) chalked up his ninth win in 12 outings with a
come-from-behind victory in the Open - 1200m sprint.
