Free Spirit bags Astro Wah Lai Toi Vase

KUALA LUMPUR,  7 October 2007

FREE SPIRIT, who finished third to GOLDEN ACE in the RM250,000 Astro Lai Toi Vase last year, turned the tables on the latter in the Class 1 - 1400m contest at Sungei Besi here today.

Revenge was especially sweet for the Australian gelding by Citidancer out of the Star Park mare Star Party as he was also beaten into second place by GOLDEN ACE in the Coronation Cup last year.

And he did it in style, too, coasting home by four-and-a-lengths. The very promising TRIPLE LUCK, making his first appearance in the top class, finished third in a capacity field of 16.

FREE SPIRIT has chalked up two minor wins this season and the Vase victory was his first big win since his back-to-back victories in the Selangor Gold Cup (1600m) and Piala Emas Sultan Selangor (2000m) early last season.

FREE SPIRIT, purchased for just A$28,000 as a yearling, has now earned RM2.3 million from eight wins and nine placings in 22 starts.
