Terry Tan wins appeal against disqualification

KUALA LUMPUR,  6 April 2007

Kuala Lumpur-based trainer Terry Tan has won his appeal against a one-year disqualification.

At the conclusion of an inquiry on Jan 10 which Tan failed to attend, he was found guilty of two charges under the MRA Rules

Tan subsequently presented himself after the inquiry was concluded, lodged an appeal against the Stipendiary Stewards’ decision and penalty, and applied for a stay of sentence which was not granted.

Trainer Terry Tan lodged an appeal against the Stipendiary Stewards’ decision not to allow a stay of sentence. On Jan 12, the Selangor Turf Club (SLTC) Racing Stewards considered his appeal and granted him a stay of sentence.

The appeal against the one year disqualification was heard by the SLTC Racing Stewards yesterday.

After considering all the evidence and submissions from Tan and Chief Stipendiary Steward, and after taking evidence from SLTC Veterinary Surgeon, the Racing Stewards decided as follows:

1. Trainer Terry Tan was not guilty of contravening MRA Rule 53(b)(i) and

2. was not guilty of contravening MRA Rule 200(7).

The charges were therefore dismissed and his deposit refunded.
