Trainer Malcolm Thwaites,
making a comeback to local racing after a sojourn in Macau, has saddled his
first winner here today.
Thwaites took over
HISTORIAN last month after the Australian three-year-old by Bletchley Park
out of the Ron Bon mare Palace Talk had raced thrice for a second last year.
After a third early this
month, HISTORIAN, ridden by Oscar Chavez, stepped up on that effort to score
by three-quarter of a length over the 1000m on the straight course.
Thwaites, now based in
Sungei Besi, prevented a clean sweep of the nine races by Ipoh based
trainers with John McGillivray saddling three winners.
McGillivray's treble
included the main event of the day, the Class 1 - 1400m handicap with
BAMBAAZON (5 b.a.g Flying Spur - Treasury Gardens by Bellotto).
