Track rider falls from horse, dies

SINGAPORE,  29 August 2007

A track rider fell from his horse during trackwork in Singapore this morning and later died.

A statement from the Singapore Turf Club said Asaad bin Makmang, 48, fell from his horse, MAXIM GUN, near the 1300m mark on the fibresand track at at approximately 6.15am today.

“The Club’s ambulance, which was at the scene, immediately went up to him. The medical personnel who attended to him, found him unconscious and not breathing. He was rushed to the Singapore General Hospital after unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate him.

“The rider was pronounced dead at 7.35am. The suspected cause of death was heart failure.

“The Club is currently working closely with the police and hospital. A post-mortem investigation is being carried out to establish the cause of death,” the statement concluded.
