The inaugural running of
the Jockey Club of Turkey Cup produced a new course record amid a thrilling finish when the
front-running KING OF HONOUR held off PIN NUMBER, thanks to a superb ride by
top French jockey Eric Legrix.
In his first test over the
1600m, KING OF HONOUR (Medal Of Honour - Enchanting Smile by Carry A Smile)
got home by a neck in the Kranji Stakes C event for his fourth win in 10
starts. His winning of 1 min. 34.9 secs shaved 0.2 secs off the previous
best set by KING'S CARNIVAL last year.
The Jockey Club of Turkey
Cup is a reciprocal race which will be hosted on rotation by the four clubs
in the MRA.
Today's race followed the
successful running of the first MRA Trophy in Istanbul in April this year
and apart from the E W Barker Trophy, all races today were named after
racing centres in Turkey.
Also in the programme was
the Ataturk Cup, held in celebration of the memory of the first President and Founder of
the Republic of Turkey, His Excellency Mustafa Kamal Atatürk.
The Class 2 - 1200m sprint
was won by bang-in-form jockey Saimee Jumaat on the Laurie Laxon-trained
WAIKATO (Pins - Skywalker Wilkes) who completed a hat-trick for his fourth win in nine starts.
WAIKATO covered the journey in 1 min. 9.2 secs.
which was just 0.2 sec. off the record set by Australia's NORTH BOY in the
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Sprint in 2002.
