WHY BE, who was named
Singapore's Horse Of The Year 2006 in Kuala Lumpur last night, put
the icing on the cake when he captured the S$200,000 Fischer Stakes (1200m)
for the second consecutive year here today.
In winning the Singapore
Group 3 event, the Australian four-year-old by Success Express out of the
Royal Academy mare Charybdis also exacted some measure of revenge over
ALWAYS FAST who defeated him in the Kranji Sprint last month when WHY BE was
disadvantaged by the handicap condition.
Back to racing at
weight-for-age, WHY BE showed that he is a cut above the rest when he
coasted home two lengths ahead of CAPABLANCA. ALWAYS FAST finished third
while ARENTI, who was expected to provide the biggest challenge to WHY BE,
was a disappointing fifth.
WHY BE has now won 18 of
his 22 starts and will be aiming to atone for his disappointing fifth in the
Lion City Cup last year when he tackled Singapore's premier sprint next
month. That outing last year was the only occasion that the Laurie Laxon
gelding has finished out of the money.
