WHY BE made amends for his
expensive failure in the S$500,000 Lion City Cup last year to win the
Singapore Group 1 event at Kranji here today.
His disappointing fifth in
the 1200m sprint was the only time he failed to score in 12 starts in 2006,
his exploits having earned him the Da Ma Cai Horse of the Year
(Singapore) title.
A year on, the Australian
four-year-old by Success Express out of the Royal Academy mare Charybdis
erased memory of that bitter defeat to score from CAPABLANCA (), a winner of
four races in Australia and already a three-time winner in Singapore.
It was WHY BE's 19th win in
24 starts and his first Group 1 win after a string of Group 3 victories:
Fischer Stakes (twice), Kranji Sprint, Four-Year-Old Sprint and the
Three-Year-Old Challenge. His previous biggest win was the MRA Cup last
year.
