Astra Torres breaks through on polytrack

ASTRA TORRES became the first winner of the newly-laid polytrack which used for racing for the first time at Kranji today.

(Polytrack is a synthetic surface consisting of recycled fibres, silica sand and chopped rubber, all coated with wax. Polytrack dissipates (spreads) the impact of horses’ hooves through its surface resulting in a more forgiving surface for horses. The fibres reduce hoof penetration and keep the horses “on the top” and hence decreasing the risk of stress and strain as well as improving energy return.)

Unplaced in eight previous starts, the Japanese bred ASTRA TORRES (Mejiro Ryan - Able Daughter by Air Dublin) relished the new surface to win the Restricted Maiden - 1200m sprint.

Of the five races run on the polytrack today, the were four big-priced winners with KIWI MAESTRO (Generous - Morning Rise by Straight Strike) provided the biggest upset, paying $168 for a win.

On the turf, four winners also returned three-figure dividends. LION CITY HERO (Mellifont - Melody Tempo by Red Tempo), a winner four starts back, surprisingly paid $184.

Michael Cahill starred amongst the jockeys when he booted home three winners.
