Perfectum Stable's WHY BE has been named Singapore's Horse Of The Year for the second consecutive year.

The Success Express-Charybdis gelding earned the votes of a 12-member panel ahead of LIM'S OBJECTIIVE and RECAST during a gathering of who's who in local racing at the Malayan Racing Association 2007 Awards gala dinner here tonight.

The Laurie Laxon-trained WHY BE won five races, including the Lion City Cup, Singapore Four-Year-Old Sprint and Fischer Stakes, and was placed four times in 10 starts last year. His only unplaced run came in the Hong Kong Sprint in December.

The Malaysian Horse Of The Year was Lucky Nine Stable's FREE SPIRIT, trained by Chong Keng Leong.

The Citidancer-Star Party gelding won four of his eight starts in 2007, winning the Coronation Cup and the Astro Wah Lai Toi Vase.

The top-rated Malaysian galloper was voted ahead of FAST FLYING and NEW KUALA DIPANG.

SUMMER FIESTA, meanwhile, was voted Malaysian Bred Champion for the third consecutive season. The Posen-Mysterious Smile raced only thrice last year but raced away with the Wira Malaysia Cup - the top race for Malaysian breds - and the Tunku Abdul Rahman Anniversary Cup.
