Barnabas suspended two months

KUALA LUMPUR,  8 August 2008

Jockey Henry Barnabas was today suspended from riding in race for two months after the inclusion of an inquiry into the running of MANY MANY on July 5.

The KC Hah-trained MANY MANY finished fourth to KING GREG in a Class 4 - 1400m handicap in Penang.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Barnabas, the rider of MANY MANY, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the stewards. The particulars of the charge were that between the 350m to the 150m, he took an unreasonable amount of time to regain the use of his right rein and passing the 150m, he dropped his whip for no satisfactory reason.

When deciding on penalty, the stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Barnabas’ points of mitigation and his record. Barnabas was suspended from riding in races for a period of two months with effect from August 11 and to expire on October 10, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
