Chevron finally lands Group 1 win

CHEVRON finally claimed a Group 1 success when he easily captured the S$500,000 Raffles Cup over 1800m at Kranji here today.

Winner of the Group 3 Derby Trial last year, the Irish gelding came up short in the Singapore Derby. After a six-month let-up, CHEVRON (Medicean - Lishaway by Polish Precedent) picked up three wins this season, including the Group 3 Committee's Prize two months back when he defeated THE HORNET.

Last time out, CHEVRON raced too fiercely for his own good when he went down to TOP SPIN in the Group 1 Kranji Mile.

The tables were turned today when CHEVRON, ridden by Saimee Jumaat, settled nicely just off the pace early and swept to the front at the home turn to defeat THE HORNET with hot favourite TOP SPIN trailing them third.
