First day on the job,
Brazilian jockey Eurico Da Silva was off the mark in his second ride when he
partnered GIANT EIGHTLEGGED to victory in the Class 5, Div 2 - 1200m sprint
at Kranji tonight.
Last year, the Canadian
based jockey had to wait until his fourth meeting before getting off the
mark.
Obviously more familiar
with Kranji this time at the start of his two-month stint, Da Silva sent
GIANT EIGHTLEGGED (Kashani - Princess Prue by Northerly Native) to the front
at the jump and held on to win easily.
However, it wasn't a
victory punters expected. Since his only previous win last June, the gelding
has finished at the tailend in all his six starts since, which was why he
paid $213 on the win tote.
Saimee Jumaat, who resumed
riding a few months back after serving a one-year disqualification, seems
intent on regaining the jockeys' title he won so regularly in the past.
Saimee landed a late double
on PRINCE GOLD (Zedrich - Army Princess by Military Plume) and NIRVANA
(Stravinsky - Philadelphia Fox by Dahar) to lead the table with four
winners.
