Record fourth Cup win for Summer Fiesta

IPOH,  16 Nov 2008

SUMMER FIESTA made it an unprecedented four consecutive wins in the RM300,000 Wira Malaysia Cup and jockey Oscar Chavez a personal hattrick in the premier event for Malaysian breds here today.

The 1600m event serves as a curtain raiser to the National Premier Sale each year. This year's sale, which will be held on Friday, will feature exclusively Malaysian breds for the second consecutive year.

SUMMER FIESTA (Posen - Mysterious Smile by Covetous), who first win this race in 2005 (after an unsuccessful attempt in 2004), has since raced five times in 2006 and thrice last year.

But he has made the Wira Malaysia Cup a race of his own. Whereas he he got home by a nose last year, he coasted home by six and three quarters lengths ahead of WONDERFUL GIFT.

The Wira Malaysia Cup was the last event to be held today, after the last three races scheduled for the afternoon were called off because of the adverse weather conditions.
