Ford returns to scale on
TAKEOVER TARGET in May. |

Australian jockey Jay Ford,
who rode TAKEOVER TARGET to victory in the S$1m KrisFlyer International
Sprint back in May, will be back to thrill racegoers from Sept 1.
The 25 year-old has been granted a five-month permit by the Singapore Turf
Club and he is expected to be the stable jockey for trainer Michael Freedman
who has already saddled four winners in the short time he has been in
Singapore.
While Ford will be an asset to the youngest of the Freedman brothers at
Kranji, he will continue his association with TAKEOVER TARGET should the
aging champion race during the period.
Ford, who never rode a racehorse until he was 16, began his riding career
seven years ago, spending the latter part of his apprenticeship with Group
One-winning trainer Kim Waugh at Rosehill.
He served notice of his talent when on July 10, 2004 he became the first
junior rider in more than a quarter of a century to ride five winners at a
Sydney metropolitan meeting.
Ford has ridden more than 400 winners and was Sydney’s champion apprentice
in 2004/05 when his association with TAKEOVER TARGET began.
He recorded six of his seven career Group One wins on TAKEOVER TARGET,
including the Newmarket Handicap in Melbourne and the Sprinters Stakes in
Japan. The pair also won the Group 2 King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Ford is also associated with Group One performers HOTEL GRAND and TERANABA.
He finished ninth in the Sydney premiership table last season and is
currently 11th with 16 wins this season. |
