JAY PEG, who won the Group
1 Dubai Duty Free last March, carried that form to Singapore and won
the S$3m Singapore Airlines International Cup over 2000m at Kranji tonight.
The highest rated runner in
the capacity field, the South African gelding by Camden Park out of Laptop
Lady finished one and three quarters lengths ahead of last season's
Singapore Gold Cup winner RECAST, denying Singapore a home town in the Group
1 event.
BALIUS, who finished second
to ARCHIPENKO in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup last month, came home
third, just ahead of another Singapore runner WORLD DELIGHT.
Smartly away, JAY PEG led past the winning
post for the first time but allowed CHVERON to take up the running going
into the back straight. CHEVRON made a breakaway in the back straight but
quickly came under pressure at he home bend.
JAY PEG regained the lead soon on
straightening and was chased by a line of three that included RECAST and
WORLD DELIGHT. JAY PEG held them at bay to win comfortably with BALIUS
flashing home very late wide out.
