KIKO'S RETURN, one of most improved horses in
training, took the classic scene by storm when he registered a runaway win
in the RM500,000 Perak Derby over 2400m here today for his sixth consecutive
win.
It was the first test by the New
Zealand four-year-old by Minardi out of the Amalgam mare Joe's Girl in open
company and he beat the daylight out of the opposition, winning by five and
three quarters lengths to give trainer Johnny Lim his first big race
success.
Surprisingly, with all the successes he has
enjoyed over the years, it was also jockey Saimee Jumaat's first win in the
Perak Derby.
SHANGHAI STAR finished second while GOLD
ARROW, who won the Derby in 2006 for trainer Frank Maynard, came home third
to give Lim a 1-3 finish.
Last year's winner FAST FLYING was a well
beaten 11th.
