Phenom scores big upset in Patrons' Bowl

PHENOM's Singapore Derby ambition is back on track after he scored an huge upset in the S$500,000 Patrons' Bowl for four-year-olds over 1400m here today.

The Australian gelding by Dr Johnson out of the Pago Mystery mare Impatient Spring had won four of his last ten starts and had emerged as a Derby potential.

But PHENOM bled on returning after winning over 1800m last time out and had to be sidelined for three months.

Credit to his trainer Desmond Koh, PHENOM came back stronger than before, judging from his victory today.

The biggest disappointment of the race was the odds-on favourite TOP SPIN, winner of 11 of his previous 18 starts, who was caught wide most of the way and finished fourth.
