Richard Lim gets stay of sentence

IPOH,  25 January 2008

Jockey Richard Lim has been granted a stay of sentence with regards to his 18-month disqualification imposed by the Stipendiary Stewarts last Monday.

Lim was disqualified 18 months and also fined RM30,000 for his handling of JERAM NATURAL, who trailed the field all the way in the Class 5, Div 1 - 1200m sprint in Ipoh on Jan 6.

Lim was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) and subsequently exercised his right of appeal and applied for a stay of sentence which was not granted.

The Perak Turf Club Racing Stewards heard Lim’s appeal against the Stipendiary Stewards’ decision not to grant him a stay of sentence today. After considering submissions from Lim and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Racing Stewards allowed the appeal and Lim’s deposit was refunded.
