ROCKET MAN shoots to his
third win in as many starts when he triumphed in the S$200,000 Magic
Millions Orchid Trophy 1200m here tonight.
Leading from start to
finish, the Patrick Shaw trained gelding easily held off the challenge of
POWERFUL RULER to win by one and a quarter lengths.
The race for northern
hemisphere two year olds and southern hemisphere three year olds was added
to the calendar this year after the cancellation of the Juvenile
Championship earlier in the season as a result of the temporary ban on the
importation of horses from Australia following the outbreak of equine
influenza in that country. The ban resulted in not having enough two year
olds to stage the Juvenile Championship.
The Singapore Turf Club
later decided to stage the Orchid Trophy to make up for the cancellation of
the Juvenile Championship with Magic Millions as the sponsors.
It was perhaps most
appropriate, then, then a graduate of the Magic Millions sale should win the
one-off event. ROCKET MAN (Viscount - Macrosa by Mr McGinty) was sold for
A$60,000 at the 2007 MM National Yearling Sale and he has carved out three
impressive wins to date.
